LET US HOPE THAT AIR FRANCE PASSENGERS ARE SAFE!

The mystery over what happened to Air France Airbus on flight from Rio de jeneiro to Paris only deepened with the discovery that the debris and the oil slick attributed to the ill fated aircraft in fact might not have belonged to the mystery aircraft.
What if the aircraft never crashed but was secretly hijacked by terrorists or even by the extra terrestrial elements? There is need to focus on the unthinkable too since even after 72 hours of crash there is no trace of the aircraft nor passengers. With the latest technology it must have been possible by now to identify the crash site by now and the debris too. The very fact that nothing has been found so far indicates that fresh thinking into the fate of the aircraft and the passengers is needed.
Let us hope against hope that the passengers are safe somewhere and that soon, we will be able to bring them back to their families.

TEXT OF OBAMA'S CAIRO SPEECH
I want you to take a look at: America is not at war with Islam: Obama
TEXT OF OBAMA SPEECH IN CAIRO
The following is a text of President Obama's prepared remarks to the Muslim world, delivered on June 4, 2009, as released by the White House.
We meet at a time of tension between the United States and Muslims around the world – tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate. The relationship between Islam and the West includes centuries of co-existence and cooperation, but also conflict and religious wars. More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations. Moreover, the sweeping change brought by modernity and globalization led many Muslims to view the West as hostile to the traditions of Islam.
Violent extremists have exploited these tensions in a small but potent minority of Muslims. The attacks of September 11th, 2001 and the continued efforts of these extremists to engage in violence against civilians has led some in my country to view Islam as inevitably hostile not only to America and Western countries, but also to human rights. This has bred more fear and mistrust.
So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, and who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. This cycle of suspicion and discord must end.
I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles – principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.
I do so recognizing that change cannot happen overnight. No single speech can eradicate years of mistrust, nor can I answer in the time that I have all the complex questions that brought us to this point. But I am convinced that in order to move forward, we must say openly the things we hold in our hearts, and that too often are said only behind closed doors. There must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground. As the Holy Koran tells us, "Be conscious of God and speak always the truth." That is what I will try to do – to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us, and firm in my belief that the interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than the forces that drive us apart.
Part of this conviction is rooted in my own experience. I am a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims. As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith.
As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam – at places like Al-Azhar University – that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.
I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America's story. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco. In signing the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, our second President John Adams wrote, "The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims." And since our founding, American Muslims have enriched the United States. They have fought in our wars, served in government, stood for civil rights, started businesses, taught at our Universities, excelled in our sports arenas, won Nobel Prizes, built our tallest building, and lit the Olympic Torch. And when the first Muslim-American was recently elected to Congress, he took the oath to defend our Constitution using the same Holy Koran that one of our Founding Fathers – Thomas Jefferson – kept in his personal library.
So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed. That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn't. And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.
But that same principle must apply to Muslim perceptions of America. Just as Muslims do not fit a crude stereotype, America is not the crude stereotype of a self-interested empire. The United States has been one of the greatest sources of progress that the world has ever known. We were born out of revolution against an empire. We were founded upon the ideal that all are created equal, and we have shed blood and struggled for centuries to give meaning to those words – within our borders, and around the world. We are shaped by every culture, drawn from every end of the Earth, and dedicated to a simple concept: E pluribus unum: "Out of many, one."
Much has been made of the fact that an African-American with the name Barack Hussein Obama could be elected President. But my personal story is not so unique. The dream of opportunity for all people has not come true for everyone in America, but its promise exists for all who come to our shores – that includes nearly seven million American Muslims in our country today who enjoy incomes and education that are higher than average.
Moreover, freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one's religion. That is why there is a mosque in every state of our union, and over 1,200 mosques within our borders. That is why the U.S. government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab, and to punish those who would deny it.
So let there be no doubt: Islam is a part of America. And I believe that America holds within her the truth that regardless of race, religion, or station in life, all of us share common aspirations – to live in peace and security; to get an education and to work with dignity; to love our families, our communities, and our God. These things we share. This is the hope of all humanity.
Of course, recognizing our common humanity is only the beginning of our task. Words alone cannot meet the needs of our people. These needs will be met only if we act boldly in the years ahead; and if we understand that the challenges we face are shared, and our failure to meet them will hurt us all.
For we have learned from recent experience that when a financial system weakens in one country, prosperity is hurt everywhere. When a new flu infects one human being, all are at risk. When one nation pursues a nuclear weapon, the risk of nuclear attack rises for all nations. When violent extremists operate in one stretch of mountains, people are endangered across an ocean. And when innocents in Bosnia and Darfur are slaughtered, that is a stain on our collective conscience. That is what it means to share this world in the 21st century. That is the responsibility we have to one another as human beings.
This is a difficult responsibility to embrace. For human history has often been a record of nations and tribes subjugating one another to serve their own interests. Yet in this new age, such attitudes are self-defeating. Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail. So whatever we think of the past, we must not be prisoners of it. Our problems must be dealt with through partnership; progress must be shared.
That does not mean we should ignore sources of tension. Indeed, it suggests the opposite: we must face these tensions squarely. And so in that spirit, let me speak as clearly and plainly as I can about some specific issues that I believe we must finally confront together.
The first issue that we have to confront is violent extremism in all of its forms.
In Ankara, I made clear that America is not – and never will be – at war with Islam. We will, however, relentlessly confront violent extremists who pose a grave threat to our security. Because we reject the same thing that people of all faiths reject: the killing of innocent men, women, and children. And it is my first duty as President to protect the American people.
The situation in Afghanistan demonstrates America's goals, and our need to work together. Over seven years ago, the United States pursued al Qaeda and the Taliban with broad international support. We did not go by choice, we went because of necessity. I am aware that some question or justify the events of 9/11. But let us be clear: al Qaeda killed nearly 3,000 people on that day. The victims were innocent men, women and children from America and many other nations who had done nothing to harm anybody. And yet Al Qaeda chose to ruthlessly murder these people, claimed credit for the attack, and even now states their determination to kill on a massive scale. They have affiliates in many countries and are trying to expand their reach. These are not opinions to be debated; these are facts to be dealt with.
Make no mistake: we do not want to keep our troops in Afghanistan. We seek no military bases there. It is agonizing for America to lose our young men and women. It is costly and politically difficult to continue this conflict. We would gladly bring every single one of our troops home if we could be confident that there were not violent extremists in Afghanistan and Pakistan determined to kill as many Americans as they possibly can. But that is not yet the case.
That's why we're partnering with a coalition of forty-six countries. And despite the costs involved, America's commitment will not weaken. Indeed, none of us should tolerate these extremists. They have killed in many countries. They have killed people of different faiths – more than any other, they have killed Muslims. Their actions are irreconcilable with the rights of human beings, the progress of nations, and with Islam. The Holy Koran teaches that whoever kills an innocent, it is as if he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind. The enduring faith of over a billion people is so much bigger than the narrow hatred of a few. Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism – it is an important part of promoting peace.
We also know that military power alone is not going to solve the problems in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is why we plan to invest $1.5 billion each year over the next five years to partner with Pakistanis to build schools and hospitals, roads and businesses, and hundreds of millions to help those who have been displaced. And that is why we are providing more than $2.8 billion to help Afghans develop their economy and deliver services that people depend upon.
Let me also address the issue of Iraq. Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world. Although I believe that the Iraqi people are ultimately better off without the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, I also believe that events in Iraq have reminded America of the need to use diplomacy and build international consensus to resolve our problems whenever possible. Indeed, we can recall the words of Thomas Jefferson, who said: "I hope that our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us that the less we use our power the greater it will be."
Today, America has a dual responsibility: to help Iraq forge a better future – and to leave Iraq to Iraqis. I have made it clear to the Iraqi people that we pursue no bases, and no claim on their territory or resources. Iraq's sovereignty is its own. That is why I ordered the removal of our combat brigades by next August. That is why we will honor our agreement with Iraq's democratically-elected government to remove combat troops from Iraqi cities by July, and to remove all our troops from Iraq by 2012. We will help Iraq train its Security Forces and develop its economy. But we will support a secure and united Iraq as a partner, and never as a patron.
And finally, just as America can never tolerate violence by extremists, we must never alter our principles. 9/11 was an enormous trauma to our country. The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our ideals. We are taking concrete actions to change course. I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States, and I have ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed by early next year.
So America will defend itself respectful of the sovereignty of nations and the rule of law. And we will do so in partnership with Muslim communities which are also threatened. The sooner the extremists are isolated and unwelcome in Muslim communities, the sooner we will all be safer.
The second major source of tension that we need to discuss is the situation between Israelis, Palestinians and the Arab world.
America's strong bonds with Israel are well known. This bond is unbreakable. It is based upon cultural and historical ties, and the recognition that the aspiration for a Jewish homeland is rooted in a tragic history that cannot be denied.
Around the world, the Jewish people were persecuted for centuries, and anti-Semitism in Europe culminated in an unprecedented Holocaust. Tomorrow, I will visit Buchenwald, which was part of a network of camps where Jews were enslaved, tortured, shot and gassed to death by the Third Reich. Six million Jews were killed – more than the entire Jewish population of Israel today. Denying that fact is baseless, ignorant, and hateful. Threatening Israel with destruction – or repeating vile stereotypes about Jews – is deeply wrong, and only serves to evoke in the minds of Israelis this most painful of memories while preventing the peace that the people of this region deserve.
On the other hand, it is also undeniable that the Palestinian people – Muslims and Christians – have suffered in pursuit of a homeland. For more than sixty years they have endured the pain of dislocation. Many wait in refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring lands for a life of peace and security that they have never been able to lead. They endure the daily humiliations – large and small – that come with occupation. So let there be no doubt: the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own.
For decades, there has been a stalemate: two peoples with legitimate aspirations, each with a painful history that makes compromise elusive. It is easy to point fingers – for Palestinians to point to the displacement brought by Israel's founding, and for Israelis to point to the constant hostility and attacks throughout its history from within its borders as well as beyond. But if we see this conflict only from one side or the other, then we will be blind to the truth: the only resolution is for the aspirations of both sides to be met through two states, where Israelis and Palestinians each live in peace and security.
That is in Israel's interest, Palestine's interest, America's interest, and the world's interest. That is why I intend to personally pursue this outcome with all the patience that the task requires. The obligations that the parties have agreed to under the Road Map are clear. For peace to come, it is time for them – and all of us – to live up to our responsibilities.
Palestinians must abandon violence. Resistance through violence and killing is wrong and does not succeed. For centuries, black people in America suffered the lash of the whip as slaves and the humiliation of segregation. But it was not violence that won full and equal rights. It was a peaceful and determined insistence upon the ideals at the center of America's founding. This same story can be told by people from South Africa to South Asia; from Eastern Europe to Indonesia. It's a story with a simple truth: that violence is a dead end. It is a sign of neither courage nor power to shoot rockets at sleeping children, or to blow up old women on a bus. That is not how moral authority is claimed; that is how it is surrendered.
Now is the time for Palestinians to focus on what they can build. The Palestinian Authority must develop its capacity to govern, with institutions that serve the needs of its people. Hamas does have support among some Palestinians, but they also have responsibilities. To play a role in fulfilling Palestinian aspirations, and to unify the Palestinian people, Hamas must put an end to violence, recognize past agreements, and recognize Israel's right to exist.
At the same time, Israelis must acknowledge that just as Israel's right to exist cannot be denied, neither can Palestine's. The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements. This construction violates previous agreements and undermines efforts to achieve peace. It is time for these settlements to stop.
Israel must also live up to its obligations to ensure that Palestinians can live, and work, and develop their society. And just as it devastates Palestinian families, the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza does not serve Israel's security; neither does the continuing lack of opportunity in the West Bank. Progress in the daily lives of the Palestinian people must be part of a road to peace, and Israel must take concrete steps to enable such progress.
Finally, the Arab States must recognize that the Arab Peace Initiative was an important beginning, but not the end of their responsibilities. The Arab-Israeli conflict should no longer be used to distract the people of Arab nations from other problems. Instead, it must be a cause for action to help the Palestinian people develop the institutions that will sustain their state; to recognize Israel's legitimacy; and to choose progress over a self-defeating focus on the past.
America will align our policies with those who pursue peace, and say in public what we say in private to Israelis and Palestinians and Arabs. We cannot impose peace. But privately, many Muslims recognize that Israel will not go away. Likewise, many Israelis recognize the need for a Palestinian state. It is time for us to act on what everyone knows to be true.
Too many tears have flowed. Too much blood has been shed. All of us have a responsibility to work for the day when the mothers of Israelis and Palestinians can see their children grow up without fear; when the Holy Land of three great faiths is the place of peace that God intended it to be; when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Isra, when Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed (peace be upon them) joined in prayer.
The third source of tension is our shared interest in the rights and responsibilities of nations on nuclear weapons.
This issue has been a source of tension between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. For many years, Iran has defined itself in part by its opposition to my country, and there is indeed a tumultuous history between us. In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically-elected Iranian government. Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has played a role in acts of hostage-taking and violence against U.S. troops and civilians. This history is well known. Rather than remain trapped in the past, I have made it clear to Iran's leaders and people that my country is prepared to move forward. The question, now, is not what Iran is against, but rather what future it wants to build.
It will be hard to overcome decades of mistrust, but we will proceed with courage, rectitude and resolve. There will be many issues to discuss between our two countries, and we are willing to move forward without preconditions on the basis of mutual respect. But it is clear to all concerned that when it comes to nuclear weapons, we have reached a decisive point. This is not simply about America's interests. It is about preventing a nuclear arms race in the Middle East that could lead this region and the world down a hugely dangerous path.
I understand those who protest that some countries have weapons that others do not. No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons. That is why I strongly reaffirmed America's commitment to seek a world in which no nations hold nuclear weapons. And any nation – including Iran – should have the right to access peaceful nuclear power if it complies with its responsibilities under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. That commitment is at the core of the Treaty, and it must be kept for all who fully abide by it. And I am hopeful that all countries in the region can share in this goal.
The fourth issue that I will address is democracy.
I know there has been controversy about the promotion of democracy in recent years, and much of this controversy is connected to the war in Iraq. So let me be clear: no system of government can or should be imposed upon one nation by any other.
That does not lessen my commitment, however, to governments that reflect the will of the people. Each nation gives life to this principle in its own way, grounded in the traditions of its own people. America does not presume to know what is best for everyone, just as we would not presume to pick the outcome of a peaceful election. But I do have an unyielding belief that all people yearn for certain things: the ability to speak your mind and have a say in how you are governed; confidence in the rule of law and the equal administration of justice; government that is transparent and doesn't steal from the people; the freedom to live as you choose. Those are not just American ideas, they are human rights, and that is why we will support them everywhere.
There is no straight line to realize this promise. But this much is clear: governments that protect these rights are ultimately more stable, successful and secure. Suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away. America respects the right of all peaceful and law-abiding voices to be heard around the world, even if we disagree with them. And we will welcome all elected, peaceful governments – provided they govern with respect for all their people.
This last point is important because there are some who advocate for democracy only when they are out of power; once in power, they are ruthless in suppressing the rights of others. No matter where it takes hold, government of the people and by the people sets a single standard for all who hold power: you must maintain your power through consent, not coercion; you must respect the rights of minorities, and participate with a spirit of tolerance and compromise; you must place the interests of your people and the legitimate workings of the political process above your party. Without these ingredients, elections alone do not make true democracy.
The fifth issue that we must address together is religious freedom.
Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance. We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition. I saw it firsthand as a child in Indonesia, where devout Christians worshiped freely in an overwhelmingly Muslim country. That is the spirit we need today. People in every country should be free to choose and live their faith based upon the persuasion of the mind, heart, and soul. This tolerance is essential for religion to thrive, but it is being challenged in many different ways.
Among some Muslims, there is a disturbing tendency to measure one's own faith by the rejection of another's. The richness of religious diversity must be upheld – whether it is for Maronites in Lebanon or the Copts in Egypt. And fault lines must be closed among Muslims as well, as the divisions between Sunni and Shia have led to tragic violence, particularly in Iraq.
Freedom of religion is central to the ability of peoples to live together. We must always examine the ways in which we protect it. For instance, in the United States, rules on charitable giving have made it harder for Muslims to fulfill their religious obligation. That is why I am committed to working with American Muslims to ensure that they can fulfill zakat.
Likewise, it is important for Western countries to avoid impeding Muslim citizens from practicing religion as they see fit – for instance, by dictating what clothes a Muslim woman should wear. We cannot disguise hostility towards any religion behind the pretence of liberalism.
Indeed, faith should bring us together. That is why we are forging service projects in America that bring together Christians, Muslims, and Jews. That is why we welcome efforts like Saudi Arabian King Abdullah's Interfaith dialogue and Turkey's leadership in the Alliance of Civilizations. Around the world, we can turn dialogue into Interfaith service, so bridges between peoples lead to action – whether it is combating malaria in Africa, or providing relief after a natural disaster.
The sixth issue that I want to address is women's rights.
I know there is debate about this issue. I reject the view of some in the West that a woman who chooses to cover her hair is somehow less equal, but I do believe that a woman who is denied an education is denied equality. And it is no coincidence that countries where women are well-educated are far more likely to be prosperous.
Now let me be clear: issues of women's equality are by no means simply an issue for Islam. In Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia, we have seen Muslim-majority countries elect a woman to lead. Meanwhile, the struggle for women's equality continues in many aspects of American life, and in countries around the world.
Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity – men and women – to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams.
Finally, I want to discuss economic development and opportunity.
I know that for many, the face of globalization is contradictory. The Internet and television can bring knowledge and information, but also offensive sexuality and mindless violence. Trade can bring new wealth and opportunities, but also huge disruptions and changing communities. In all nations – including my own – this change can bring fear. Fear that because of modernity we will lose of control over our economic choices, our politics, and most importantly our identities – those things we most cherish about our communities, our families, our traditions, and our faith.
But I also know that human progress cannot be denied. There need not be contradiction between development and tradition. Countries like Japan and South Korea grew their economies while maintaining distinct cultures. The same is true for the astonishing progress within Muslim-majority countries from Kuala Lumpur to Dubai. In ancient times and in our times, Muslim communities have been at the forefront of innovation and education.
This is important because no development strategy can be based only upon what comes out of the ground, nor can it be sustained while young people are out of work. Many Gulf States have enjoyed great wealth as a consequence of oil, and some are beginning to focus it on broader development. But all of us must recognize that education and innovation will be the currency of the 21st century, and in too many Muslim communities there remains underinvestment in these areas. I am emphasizing such investments within my country. And while America in the past has focused on oil and gas in this part of the world, we now seek a broader engagement.
On education, we will expand exchange programs, and increase scholarships, like the one that brought my father to America, while encouraging more Americans to study in Muslim communities. And we will match promising Muslim students with internships in America; invest in on-line learning for teachers and children around the world; and create a new online network, so a teenager in Kansas can communicate instantly with a teenager in Cairo.
On economic development, we will create a new corps of business volunteers to partner with counterparts in Muslim-majority countries. And I will host a Summit on Entrepreneurship this year to identify how we can deepen ties between business leaders, foundations and social entrepreneurs in the United States and Muslim communities around the world.
On science and technology, we will launch a new fund to support technological development in Muslim-majority countries, and to help transfer ideas to the marketplace so they can create jobs. We will open centers of scientific excellence in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and appoint new Science Envoys to collaborate on programs that develop new sources of energy, create green jobs, digitize records, clean water, and grow new crops. And today I am announcing a new global effort with the Organization of the Islamic Conference to eradicate polio. And we will also expand partnerships with Muslim communities to promote child and maternal health.
All these things must be done in partnership. Americans are ready to join with citizens and governments; community organizations, religious leaders, and businesses in Muslim communities around the world to help our people pursue a better life.
The issues that I have described will not be easy to address. But we have a responsibility to join together on behalf of the world we seek – a world where extremists no longer threaten our people, and American troops have come home; a world where Israelis and Palestinians are each secure in a state of their own, and nuclear energy is used for peaceful purposes; a world where governments serve their citizens, and the rights of all God's children are respected. Those are mutual interests. That is the world we seek. But we can only achieve it together.
I know there are many – Muslim and non-Muslim – who question whether we can forge this new beginning. Some are eager to stoke the flames of division, and to stand in the way of progress. Some suggest that it isn't worth the effort – that we are fated to disagree, and civilizations are doomed to clash. Many more are simply skeptical that real change can occur. There is so much fear, so much mistrust. But if we choose to be bound by the past, we will never move forward. And I want to particularly say this to young people of every faith, in every country – you, more than anyone, have the ability to remake this world.
All of us share this world for but a brief moment in time. The question is whether we spend that time focused on what pushes us apart, or whether we commit ourselves to an effort – a sustained effort – to find common ground, to focus on the future we seek for our children, and to respect the dignity of all human beings.
It is easier to start wars than to end them. It is easier to blame others than to look inward; to see what is different about someone than to find the things we share. But we should choose the right path, not just the easy path. There is also one rule that lies at the heart of every religion – that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. This truth transcends nations and peoples – a belief that isn't new; that isn't black or white or brown; that isn't Christian, or Muslim or Jew. It's a belief that pulsed in the cradle of civilization, and that still beats in the heart of billions. It's a faith in other people, and it's what brought me here today.
We have the power to make the world we seek, but only if we have the courage to make a new beginning, keeping in mind what has been written.
The Holy Koran tells us, "O mankind! We have created you male and a female; and we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another."
The Talmud tells us: "The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace."
The Holy Bible tells us, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
The people of the world can live together in peace. We know that is God's vision. Now, that must be our work here on Earth. Thank you. And may God's peace be upon you.

MEDIA COVERAGE OF ILLFATED AIR FRANCE FLIGHT FROM BRAZIL TO FRANCE
MEDIA COVERAGE OF AIR FRANCE FLIGHT THAT CRASHED INTO THE ATLANTIC
The TV media as soon as the news about the missing Air France flight from Rio de jeniero to Paris went into overdrive and started live coverage of the Paris Airport and the anxious friends and relatives of the unfortunate flight. The Media gave extensive coverage to the French Political leadership that went to the air port to offer solace to those near and dear friends and relatives of the ill fated flight. However, even after the passenger list was released and it has come to the notice of everybody that the flight carried maximum French passengers followed by the Brazilians and other nationalities, yet no effort was made to cover the Rio de janeiro airport and the feelings of the friends and relatives of the Brazilian passengers on board the flight.
Even after 24 hours of the incident, yet nobody for sure knows what happened to the air craft. It still remained a mystery and may take a couple of days to zero on the exact crash site and start analysis of the reasons for this horrible air crash.
The utter unconcern shown by the media for the Brazilians on the ill fated plane once again brings shadow on the ability of the media to give balanced coverage of news and events. The media failed to realize that the flight is from Brazil to France and has a large number of Brazilian passengers and the Brazil air port and the families of anxious relatives of Brazilian nationality too deserve to be give due weight age in the media coverage.
Brazil soon after the news broke out, tried its best to organize the search and rescue operations and sent air force planes to search the possible areas of the crash site.
The undue focus on Paris Airport by the media for sure proves yet again that the media needs to be more responsible in the coverage of events that take place across the world. The Indian media went a step further and used the occasion to discuss the near miss incident in the Mumbai airport. It shows that the media is interested in sensationalizing the news rather than objective and balanced reporting of the news as it happens.

IMPROVING WRITING SKILLS BY USING ONLINE DICTIONARIES
Those of us who have access to the computer and internet, prefer key board to input our ideas, thoughts and action plans instead of using pen and paper. While the Operating Systems life Microsoft Office correct our typing mistakes automatically, yet to convey our expression with clarity we need the help of dictionaries. It is difficult for us to refer to the popular paper based dictionaries like Oxford dictionary to get the right word with precise meaning essential for our written communication on the net or off the net. We need the help of dictionaries not only for right expression but also words that convey precise contextual meaning. It is not what we write but how we write matters much if we have to succeed in expressing in writing what we precisely what we want to convey.
There are online dictionaries that offer help in writing the right way with right words. We can access online the following dictionaries to improve our writing skills.

GROWING POPULARITY OF EMAIL
EMAILS EMERGED AS POPULAR CHOICE FOR WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
The estimates for 2005 by the International Postal Union show that both the letter and parcel traffic put together exceed 444 billion. We can assume that the letter traffic and parcel traffic put together during 2008 might have reached 550 billion annually at the most.
According to a February 2007 article in Tech Crunch estimates there are about 250 million Yahoo! Mail users, followed by 228 million Hotmail users and 51 million Gmail users world wide. Radcati Group Inc estimates email traffic per day in 2009 reach astounding 247 billion per day. Compare this with 550 billion letter and post parcel traffic per year. It just takes 2 days internet traffic to equal to an year’s letter and postal traffic. But out of the estimated 247 billion e mail or internet related traffic per day, 81% or 200 billion email traffic is spam related. Spam can be defined as sending unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant or inappropriate messages, in the nature of commercial advertising in mass quantities. It can be termed as electronic junk mail. Advertisers of dubious products, get rich schemes or quasi legal services mostly resorts to spam mail as it costs them little. Email spam’s target is individual users with direct mail messages. Even if we take out the 81% spam email, yet the genuine email related traffic approximately 50 billion per day and the e mail traffic compared to the postal traffic is hundreds of times shows that internet emerged as a popular communication medium. There is still a huge scope for the penetration as the estimated email users are only 1.4 billion people though the world population is estimated at 6.7 billion and with the internet devices becoming cheaper the email traffic is bound to grow bigger.
One of the main benefits of email usage is the huge savings of paper and the printing costs. Email is sure environmentally friendly and helps in eco balance.

I NEWS -INNOVATIVE NEWS CHANNEL IN TELUGU MAKING WAVES
INews-Telugu News Channel- Really different from the rest
Though the I News made its appearance a few months back as a Telugu news channel, it made its mark with the innovative and interesting content presentation. The Pin Counter episodes are a real treat for the viewers with the animated character asking boldest and frankest questions. The animated caricature was well conceived and attracts huge viewer ship. The leaders interviewed in the pin counter program often fumble to answer the sharp questions that an ordinary interviewer dare not ask. The coverage of elections or breaking of news also increased the viewer ship to this news channel.
With the advent of innovative channel I News, other news channels in telugu too have to change their style to keep themselves popular.

LET US SELL GOLD
The question on the lips of everybody in India is whether to buy gold at these prices. It is time to think differently and decide. It is not the time to buy gold but yes sell gold.
India has an estimated 50000 tons of Gold in private holdings form. The Gold prices witnessed unprecedented rise due to global financial crises. However according to forecasts, like the oil price crash, gold price too is set to register a fall in the coming months. Gold price is expected to touch $700 per ounce in November 2009, which will be almost 30% off from the recent peak of $1000 per troy ounce.
The gold price already started retracting. It is on every body’s mind as to whether to buy gold or sell gold at this juncture. The high gold prices already made India the leading consumer of gold world wide into a net exporter. India is the major country that drives the demand for gold. With agencies like IMF getting ready to offload some of their gold reserves to en cash the booming gold prices, gold price is likely to fall by significant levels.
It will be prudent to sell the gold held in private hands and wait for the crash in gold prices before we buy gold. This time when you sell gold, keep it in the form of cash so that you can buy gold when the prices decline. An advice to those holding gold in the form of jewellery is that next time when you buy gold, you buy in the form of hall marked gold coins, so that they get a very good price when you chose to sell, unlike the jewellery items which are bought at discounted price.
So make good returns on your gold holdings instead of keeping them as illiquid assets

VIZAG'S FAMOUS JAIN TEMPLE
VIZAG’S JAIN TEMPLE
COURTESY YO VIZAG APRIL 09
Siva Prasad Dantu
The strongly knit Jain community is an
integral part of the rich cultural, social
and financial matrix of Vizag. And for the
around 1000 Jain families in the city,
there are two important Jain temples
providing a source of spiritual elevation
for scores of devotees, Jains and others
as well, in Vizag. Namely, the Jain temple
near the Old Alankar Theatre and the Jain
temple near the Collectorate. Both these
temples don a festive look for the Mahavir
Jayanthi Celebrations, which falls on April
7th this year.
Lord Mahavir born in 599 BC, acclaimed as the last in the
galaxy of 24 Teerthankaras (Jain Prophets) was among the
greatest apostles of peace and social reform. The essence of
Mahavir's teachings was simple and straightforward, and so
relevant in today's world of violence and hate. His doctrine:
"Do unto others as you would like to be done by. Injury or
violence done by you to any life in any form - animal or human,
is as harmful as it would be if caused to your own self."
Mahavir's tenets of Ahimsa, Asteya, Brahmacharya,
Aparigraha and Satya are strictly adhered to by the Jain
Monks, guiding them the path to eternity.
The Jain temple near Poorna Market area is built in the
traditional Jain temple style and replete with beautiful marble
carvings, is an architectural delight in Vizag. The temple was
inaugurated on 28/04/1993 with the 'pratishta' done by Sri
Marathwada Uddarak Parampujya Acharya Sri Varisen Suriji.
The Prayer Hall and Sri Siddha Chakra were added in 2004.
The 'Moolanayak' of the temple is Sri Sambvavnath, who is
the third Tirthankara. The Second idol in the temple is that of
Sri Vimalnathji, the 13th Tirthankara. The third idol is that of
Sri Vardhman Mahavirji who is the 24th and the last of the
Tirthankaras. In the second floor of the temple, there is the
idol of Sri Parsvnath Bhagawanji, the 23rd Tirthankara (this
idol is believed to be of ancient origin).
The temple is open from 6 am to 9 pm and on average daily more
than 200 devotees visits the temple and offer prayers. The
temple anniversary day, Mahvir Jayanthi and Samvasvari Divas
or Universal Forgiveness Day are celebrated with great fervour
and devotion. On these important occasions, poor feeding too
is conducted.
The important ritual timings are
6 am- 6.30 am : Bhaktambar Mahastrotra
6.30- 7.30 am : Abhisekham
10.00am : Aarati
6.30 -7.30 pm : Evening Aarati
8 types of offerings to the presiding deities are made by the
devotees. The devout can directly perform 'navang' puja here.
The temple committee has plans to construct a new Dharmasala
for the benefit of devotees. The temple matters are efficiently
managed by the committee with active participation of the
members led by Sri Sampath Kumar Jain.
VIZAG'S SUBMARINE MUSEUM ONE OF ITS KIND IN INDIA
Courtesy Yo-Vizag April 09
The Awesome Sub
Siva Prasad Dantu
The skyline at the Vizag shore is dominated by an awe inspiring
mammoth structure The Submarine Museum, 'Smritika'.
Located on the serene Rama Krishna Beach, this museum
started functioning in 2001 was converted from the mighty
1400 ton INS Kursura, a Russian built submarine. Only one
of these kinds in the Asian continent and the fourth such
museum in the entire world, this Submarine Museum standing
tall against the back drop of mighty waters of Bay of Bengal,
attracts many. As a museum, the beached Sub gives a rare
opportunity to visit, experience and learn about the forbidden
confines of a Naval Submarine, torpedo rooms, staff quarters,
the top secret sonar and radar installations and the submarine
control systems. It gives the visitor an understanding about
the trying and tough conditions under which the submariners
serve the nation.
INS Kursura had a glorious record of
serving the nation for 3 decades. It has
traversed 73500 nautical miles and clocked
over 3000 dived hours and participated
in all types of Naval Operations. It played
a vital role during the 1971 war and helped
the nation against the enemy attacks. The
Sub has a length of over 91 meters. Her
sheer size evokes awe and admiration.
Installing this decommissioned submarine on the RK Beach
itself was a daunting task and it took almost 18 months to
beach the submarine and convert it into a museum. The
Kursura Museum was thrown open to public on 24 Aug 2002.
The submarine displays its complete weapon package,
including the torpedoes. The VUDA entered into an
understanding with the Navy for maintenance of the museum
and it charges Rs. 25 per adult and Rs. 15 per child towards
entry fee. Till date, more than 15 Lakh people visited the
submarine museum since it was opened to the public in 2002.
More than 2 lakh visitors enter the submarine annually.
The Submarine Museum is open
from Tuesday to Saturdays from 2 Pm to 8.30 pm
Sundays: 10 am to 12.30 pm and 2pm to 8.30 pm
Monday is holiday for the museum.

NEED FOR BANNING POLITICAL PARTIES LIKE MDMK IN INDIA
BAN MDMK AND BAR MR. VAIKO.
Democracy requires responsible political parties. Those political parties whose hidden agenda is to promote the wrong causes need to be ousted from the political system without any mercy. Let us study the case of MDMK whose hidden agenda is to propagate not the Tamil cause in Srilanka but to promote the LTTE the militant outfit in Srilanka led by V. Prabhakaran. The LTTE has a wider goal of independent homeland for Tamils in Srilanka but the means of LTTE for attaining the goal are a blot on the civilized world. LTTE is responsible for the assassination and killings of scores of leaders and innocent people. The promising youth leader of India Rajiv Gandhi was brutally assassinated by the LTTE operatives in India under the direct command and control operations of LTTE led by Prabhakaran. Prabhakaran is on the wanted list for his role in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Equating the cause of Tamils with LTTE and Prabhakaran is a grave error. Those who profess violence and terror can never represent the general population of a particular community like Tamils in Srilanka. Due to the charges against Prabhakaran in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, for sure Prabhakaran is a proclaimed offender under the Indian laws and for sure he is not among the list of Indian friends.
According to a newspaper report, MDMK Chief said “the unity of India cannot be guaranteed if the war in Srilanka is not stopped immediately” He also reportedly said “India also consists of seven crore Tamils. All Tamils support Prabhakaran. If anything happens to Prabhakaran, a river of blood will flow in Tamil Nadu. If you don’t stop the war, India won’t be one country”
It is clear that MDMK chief has made anti national statements by threatening the unity of the nation. He also threatened a river of blood in Tamil Nadu. Whose blood it is any way? If anything happens to Prabhakaran, the proclaimed offender in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, why rivers of blood should flow in Tamil Nadu? His statement that all the 7 crore Tamil people support Prabhakaran needs to be dismissed with contempt. The 7 Crore Tamils in Tamil Nadu along with a 100 Crore Indians for sure pray for the end of the sufferings of the Tamil Population in Srilanka. We all want an end to the decades long cross fire between the LTTE and the Srilankan army which led to the loss of tens of thousands of innocent lives. As a neighboring nation, India can always advocate dialogue and peaceful means for resolving the conflict between the dominant community and the Tamils in Srilanka. We can provide all the possible humanitarian assistance to the suffering Tamils in Srilanka. India can only advise the Srilankan Government to prefer peaceful means for resolving the ethnic conflict in Srilanka. It will be better if the LTTE cadres surrender to the UN or the Red Cross in Srilanka and await justice and help in ending the sufferings of Srilankans in general and Tamils living in Srilanka in particular. Such stand is in the interests of Tamils in Srilanka as well as in India’s national interest.
The statements of MDMK chief for sure are neither in the nation’s interest nor the interests of Tamil community in India as well as in Srilanka.
The Appropriate constitutional and statutory authorities must take immediate steps for banning the MDMK from carrying out any political activity in India including participating in elections and governance. Drastic steps are needed against the dangerous and divisive political parties setting aside political compulsions for giving space to such parties.

LET US DISCARD CASTE NAMES
Why Caste Names?
In democracy all are equal and got equal rights, equal opportunities and equal responsibilities. The Caste Factor still plays a dominant role in the electoral politics, social life as well as the selection of a candidate for a job. Those socially deprived castes including the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes as well as the backward classes constitute roughly 80% of the predominantly Hindu dominated nation. It is unfortunate that even today we are identified with the caste to which it belongs rather than the merit each of us has.
Study the following names
These examples are given for greater clarity only and not to say that they have used the ‘caste tag’ to their benefit.
1. Ravi Sastry : Ravi Sastry is a great cricketer the nation has produced. Every one of us know that he brought name and fame to the nation. So naturally Ravi Sastry is easily identified with Cricket game. The name reveals yet another fact. The tag ‘satry’ to his name indicates that he belongs to the ‘Brahmin Caste’
2. Devender Goud: He is a leading political leader in Andhra Pradesh. He was a minister in the Telugu Desam Government. His name has a caste tag “goud’ indicating that he belongs to a backward caste.
It is clear that we are not averse to attaching the ‘caste’ tag to the name of a person during the naming ceremony itself to give the child an identity with the caste grouping based on lineage.
Since we all want to give us this divisive caste factor in all fields of our lives, we can consider the example of Tamil Nadu where the Caste Name tags to the name of a person is prohibited. It is a good step in the right direction. There is no harm in recognizing Ravi as a famous Cricketer instead of Ravi Sastry. Similarly all of us whose names have caste tags can choose to remove those tags and take care that we are not identified by our caste but by our qualities and merit in the society.
Since the caste names have done much social damage, a new thinking on the removal of caste names is needed along with steps to help the socially and economically backward classes in India.

INDIANS HOLD $1.4 TRILLION IN SWISS BANKS
INDIA –TIME FOR RISING ABOVE DISHONESTY AND CORRUPTION.
By Sivaprasad Dantu
As Indians we believe that God is Omni present and Omni potent. We pretend to be averse to the materialistic way of life as we are believers in the theory of Karma which ordains that for the sins we commit in this world, we will have to take several births to atone and finally reach the feet of the lord for ever. The Vedas are clear, the Philosophy is clear. In fact, the Vedas instruct us not to borrow money but live with what ever means at our disposal. There is a stress on the righteous way of life based on the truth. The Vedas permitted a man to borrow under difficult financial conditions as an exception, but only to the extent that he has means to repay. At the time of death, one should not have any unpaid dues according to the Vedas. So even if one has to borrow, he needs to repay before death so that he can travel to nether worlds. Vedas further stipulated that those who die with unpaid dues to others can not be released from the bondage of earth, till his / her immediate successors pay off his/ her dues with interest. In the event the deceased has no direct successors, even then his distant successors need to repay the principal amount at least to whom the deceased owes dues in order to allow his spirit to travel away from the bondage of earth. If the Hindu religion is so stringent even with borrowings a person can make, imagine what fate awaits those who earn money through illegal means by indulging in corrupt practices. For sure, they receive a server punishment at the hands of the God.
Money of Indian origin to the tune of an astounding amount of $1.4 trillion according to reports is lying in the Swiss Bank where as India’s GDP in 2007 has been assessed at $1.2 trillion. This amply proves that the black money held by Indians in Swiss banks alone exceeds the GDP of the nation. According to some reports, black money constitutes 18-21% of the GDP and is in the range of around 200 billion dollars. It is a clear proof that many of us as Indians deviated from the path of religion and wisdom and are more materialistic than the die hard materialists else where.
The root cause of this situation is the exploitation of the resources of the country by business men, administrators and leaders due to the loopholes. It is the result of transparency and lack of integrity and honesty.
It is this untaxed money in dishonest hands in India that has blocked the improvement in the lives of millions of Indians. It is this money that has stood in the way of ensuring a decent life for the millions and millions in India. It is the main reason for failure to provide the basic amenities like reasonable shelter, potable drinking water and food for the majority of the people. This untaxed money is the biggest stumbling block for the emergence of the nation that has ensured decent standard of living to its citizens.
This black money has powered the political system that has interest in creating and retaining their grip over the divided sections of the community. This black money has been effectively used to build the empires for the politicians and business men and administrators based on the divisive politics.
Every body knows that in India, corruption is a well oiled parallel system that that feeds those greedy at the cost of citizens. It is for this reason that Rajiv Gandhi once lamented that out of every one rupee targeted for the development and welfare of rural areas, only 1/10 is reaching the end beneficiary. The rest of 90% is pocketed by the unscrupulous among the politicians, businessmen and administrators.
It is a common in India to expect that those who are performing their duties as political leaders holding the government power or the administrative machinery expects some private un accounted premium from the end users for the duties performed. This exploiting class has personal interest above the public service in their hearts. If a contractor wants a government contract, he needs to prepare himself to pay huge amounts to those involved in the process of granting him contract. If you need to register a house or plot of land, you need to be prepared to pay a certain percentage of money unofficially to those who matter, apart from the prescribed government fee. The businessmen too conceal most of their real income and show only that much for which they want to pay taxes. Where ever there is a loophole to evade tax or earn money through dishonest means, Indians are unfortunately at it. It is not to say that there are no honest people in the nation. But their dwindling numbers have led to alarming increase in dishonest ways to earn and accumulate the wealth.
India has only one enemy that needs to be fought with all might. India needs to wage a war to cleanse the system from the greed syndrome with toughest measures. One of the measures that act as disincentive for earning money through dishonest means is to take away the right of inheritance. At the time of death of a person, the property and all the assets must return to the state and there by people. The lure of passing on the ill gotten wealth to their children that needs to be curbed with an iron hand. Then only India can solve the problems faced by the people.
It is a thorough overhaul of the system to get rid of the greed from the corrupt minds that can create fair opportunities for every body based on merit. Till then, democracy means electing leaders who have ‘accumulation of wealth’ as the secret desire shadowing the stated ‘service to the people’ as their guiding philosophy.
India needs to rediscover its strength by imbibing qualities that discourage accumulation of wealth by dishonest means. Then only India can make a difference to the vast multitudes of its citizens.
India can create a society which is just, which gives opportunities to every one based on merits and emerge stronger on the global scene by fighting the twin devils of corruption and dishonesty.

GURU-SISHYA PARAMPARA IN HINDU WAY OF LIFE
The Hindu Society relies heavily on the perception that Guru is not only a teacher and guide but also the preceptor who facilitates a shift in consciousness. Hindu Philosophy gives great importance to the Guru or teacher. Children are taught to respect and obey the mother, father and Guru or teacher in that order. Mother is given the honor of being the first Guru to the child since the child learns from the mother even while in womb and there after. The supreme among the Guru’s are Lord Krishna, Shiva, and Sankaracharya who are treated as jagat guru’s or the guides and teachers to the entire universe. That is why we respectfully pay to Lord Krishna by saying ‘krishname vande jagat gurum’
Guru’s or the teachers are supposed to have highest level of knowledge and the quality to spread and share their knowledge without expecting anything in return. Guru is more than a teacher, more than a friend, more than a guide, more than a person who has superior knowledge-Guru has the ability to cause a shift in the consciousness that in turn leads man on the right path-right actions, right behavior, right conduct and finally free his followers from the path of life and death.
Guru in true sense has no attachment with the materialistic things in the world. He eats what others give –and pursues the path of knowledge and wisdom. He speaks truth. He knows the right path. He knows the way a man can endear himself to God. He knows how to avoid pitfalls. Guru is one who knows everything that you and me do not know. Even if you are a doctorate in a particular subject, yet your Guru is the one who knows more than you at any point of time.
In Hinduism it is only the Guru who is entitled to initiate us into the path of wisdom and knowledge. It is for this reason that the most purest of pure ‘mantras’ in Hinduism, the Gayatri Mantram can be for the first time taught and explained only by a Guru. This great mantra without ‘gurpodesam’ or without the involvement of the Guru in initiating the mantra fails to give the results, the mantra is supposed to bring to the reciter.
The relationship between the Guru and Sishya (the learner or the student) since ancient times was guided by the noble principles of the sishyas doing service to the Guru and in return attaining the knowledge and wisdom needed in this life. It is from the Gurukulam or the place where the Guru resides that the students apart from learning knowledge, learn the skills that are required to fight battles, fighting skills etc. This knowledge so obtained from the Guru used to guide the students in their lives.
The importance of Guru is always recognized and digested by the society. The Saibaba incarnation too tells his followers to choose a guru and follow his directions. Nothing else needed to be done by us other than what has been told by the Guru.
However the western civilization and western mode of education has demoted the Guru in India to that of a teacher like in the west. Of course in the west or other nations too, the teacher is respected, but the teacher has limitations. He has his own private life and teaching is a his career. But according to the Indian philosophy, the Guru remains the preceptor of knowledge, wisdom and consciousness guiding his followers (sishyas) , when ever such guidance is sought. The bond of Guru with his students under the Hindu philosophy does not break even with death.
The Hindu philosophy believes that Guru is the Brahma, Guru is the Vishnu and the Guru is the Maheswara. The Hinduism sees the Guru as the incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara. He is nothing less than the God we worship.
How good it will be if we go back and live under ‘GURU SISHYA PARAMPARA’ which for sure offers all of us a life style that has less of materialistic elements and more of good conduct, good deeds and actions. If we know that we gain nothing by harming others, we will not harm but this deviation from the glorious guru shishya parampara has led us to lead a life style where living for our happiness and our pleasure takes precedence over living for a better life for others and waiting for freedom from the birth and death cycle.
The present day schooling for children has much to do with our ability to spend huge amounts on education but less in making their lives truly elevated.

YO VIZAG ARTICLE ON SANKRANTI
The following is the extract from the article on Sankranti Festival published by YO-Vizag magazine in January 09 issue
SANKRANTI
For Hindus SUN is the manifest of God blessing and benefitting one and all without any break. Makara Sankranti marks the beginning of ascendency and entry of Sun into Northern Hemisphere and the commencement of holy Uttarayana time. It is a national festival lasting four days. For the people of Andhra Pradesh, Sankranti is the mega annual festival and is fondly called as Pedda Panduga meaning the “the big festival’
One month preceding Sankranti is called Dhanurmasam and is also an auspicious period. People wake up early, take bath and go around the streets singing devotional songs. Houses are whitewashed and farmers clean their warehouses. Colorful rangoli (muggulu) are drawn in the front yards of every house during this month. These artistic floral designs are drawn on the floor with rice flour or fine powder from limestone. These patterns are decorated with marigold placed on cowdung balls. Colorfully dressed young girls go round them singing songs. The Hari Dasus singing mellifluously devotional songs on lord Vishnu in the early morning create the right mood for the festivities.
It is on the Makara Sankranti day that Lord Vishnu crushed the evil Asuras and hence marks victory of good over evil. It is also the day on which Bhishma Pitamaha (Mahabharata) chose to leave this mortal world.Makara Sankranti day according to Hindu legend marks the visit of Sun God to the house of Shani for a month long visit. This day signifies the relationship between father and son. Sankranti day marks the start of the day of devatas and hence considered most auspicious and is also called Devayana.
It is the prominent harvest festival with the houses of farmers full with farm produce and cash in the hands of every farmer. Son in laws come to the homes along with their wives and children and are treated like royalty with gifts of new clothes, elaborate meals, visits to fairs.
First day of Sankranti festival is celebrated as Bhogi. On this day in the early morning a honfire is lit before each house and people gather around the bonfires enjoying the warmth during the winter season. The ladies and girls in every house vie with each other in drawing artistic designs with the help of rice flour of various hues and colors during the 4 day long festival before their houses. Many competitions too are held to judge the best Muggu or design.
On the Sankranti day people wear new clothes, pray Sun God with all devotion, eat sumptuous meals, visit fairs with enjoyment and happiness all round.
Third day of the festivities are called ‘kanuma’. As part of the festival, cows and bulls are given a wash and the horns are painted with bright colours and decorated with garland, and are taken in a procession in the village to the accompaniment of pipes and drums. The animals are worshipped as a mark of their help year long. On this day animal races are held and the best animals are judged.
Sankranti is a true festival time for everybody spreading cheer, happiness and joy.

FINANCIAL MELT DOWN- DO WE NEED TO KEEP CEO SALARIES SO HIGH?
FINANCIAL MELT DOWN- DO WE NEED TO KEEP CEO SALARIES SO HIGH?
Companies, organizations, businesses, financial institutions no doubt need the best talent to run them. How ever in the race t o get the best the companies compete so intensely by offering astounding salaries that according to preliminary data the 500 companies in Standard & Poor list made an average of $14.2 million dollars despite the global economic crises. The chief executive of a Standard & Poor's 500 company made, on average, $14.2 million in total compensation in 2007, Compare this to the salary of the President of the USA has a salary of $400000. What makes the top CEO deserves salaries that are 30 times more than the US President one wonders.
Work wise the US President has the highest responsibility not only as the President of the most Powerful nation but also as the uncrowned leader of multitude of nations.
One way to cap the excess pay to the CEOs or others and thereby control wasteful expenditure is to limit the salary of any person to that of the US President. By doing this, unnecessary competition in the best talent hunts with higher salary as the bite and lure will come to an end. This way we will be respecting persons according to the responsibilities.
Similar measures by other nations too will help in bridging the divide

NEW TOOLS FOR JUDGING THE PERFORMANCE OF STATE GOVERNMENTS IN INDIA
In India many State Governments perform poorly, but the political parties go before voters with tall promises every time. It is necessary to let the people judge the performance of each State Government on a continuing basis with the following tools.
India has a majority of poor people who have no access to clean drinking water, reasonable shelter and affordable health care and job opportunities are critical for the development of the country. Unless the benefits of progress reach the masses there is no point in claiming that lot of development is taking place. It is not suffice to emerge as a major nation with respect to GDP or Purchasing power parity. It is only when the number of poor out of the poverty circle that must be performance yard stick for each government. So far the development is judged on all India basis.
Each State Government should set up a completely autonomous body of eminent people to assess the progress with respect to the following parameters on monthly basis.
No of Poor in the State
No of peole with safe drinking water facility
No of people with reasonable shelter
No of people who can access affordable medical care
Inflation index must contain elements of consumer prices and not wholesale prices.
The items covered must include essential food commodities and vegetables, housing cost, price of power and petroleum products and food items like the prices in Hotels etc. on weekly basis.
The periodicity of publication of all the above key parameters must be on monthly basis.
If such a performance report reaches public hands every month in each state, people can judge what their government is doing. If for three months there is negative reporting on the key parameters, such state government must be dismissed. People want governments that perform and not the governments that promise but keep them poor. Unless such monitoring is introduced, majority of the Indians remain in Poverty for the next 60 years too.

HARI DAS BHAJANS KEEP SANKRANTI SPIRIT ALIVE

The arrival of the big festival Sankranti enables the city dwellers in Andhra Pradesh, India to go back to the glorious traditions of the past. Hari Das sings songs in praise of Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. They wake up us in the early morning with their bhajans in praise of the Lord.
They never solicit any thing but accept offerings of cash or rice. Only about a month during the Sankranti eve they make appearance and live on the offerings by devotees for the entire year. They spend their whole lives with the name of God on their lips.
They are the living symbols of Hinduism which exhorts not to amass wealth but amass the virtues of Bhakti by chanting. Their simple live style makes us understand that we must too live a simple life without getting attached to the materialistic wealth which in anyway will desert us at the time of our departure from this world. It is the name of God in our hearts and lips that ensure a better life after rebirth.

ARE NOT WE EQUAL BEFORE GOD?
Are VIPs and the Rich more than equal before God? The way in which the ordinary devotees are stopped to make way for the VIPs and the Rich to enter temples without standing in ques makes us believe that it is not the Presiding deity of the temple, but the administration that discriminates the ordinary devotee in favour of the VIPs and the Rich. God is equal to all the devotees and it is the man who is creating preferences and priorities for temple visits.
Unfortunately India has too many VIPs and every time a VIP visits temples, it is the normal devotees standing in ques for days like in Tirupathi Balaji temple that suffer. God can never condone the acts of those who ensure priority to a few at the cost of many.
Visiting temples out of devotion by the VIPs is one issue. Visiting temples to garner votes is another issue. Politicians not belonging to a particular religion visit often places of other religious importance for vote bank politics. This is condemnable. The current AP Chief Minister is a Christian but visits all the Hindu temples not as an expression of his faith in Hindu way of life, but to garner votes from the majority community. At every Hindu temple, there is a sign board that those non Hindus who wish to visit a temple need to sign a declaration affirming his faith in the presiding deity. In how many cases this declaration is obtained from the VIPs is a matter of debate.
Infact all the priority and preference for VIPs and the Rich must be abolished in the matter of temple visits with immediate effect. After all whether He/She is the President of the Nation, Rich Industrialist, ordinary farm labourer, farmer, employee, business man, or the poorest are equal before God. Any body aiding to violate this fundamental principle will sure be punished by God when the time comes.
There is no need for any special treatment to the VIPs and the Rich in the matter of temple visits. Politicians playing religious politics need to be told by the public that they need to stand in the same que if they want to visit the presiding diety.
It is only the public anger and public resentment that can make VIPs and the Rich from miscuing their power to gain temple entry at their will. The self importance these persons attach to themselves need to be discouraged by the society which made them what they are. If the crowds standing in ques for temple visits start expressing themselves against the preferential treatment to chosen few, then automatically these leaders will feel humbled and stand along with them in ques. This is how we can enforce equality before God.

CAN INTERNET CONNECTIVITY GROW BEYOND 2010?
Is the end of internet connectivity in sight? According to a new report, it may happen by 2010. What next is the question that bothers all of us. Read the report
LONDON: The "father" of the internet has warned that the web will run out of IP addresses by 2010, saying the web does not have enough unique codes that allow computers to communicate with each other.
Vint Cerf, the "father" of the web, said when the internet protocol (IP) addresses do run out, the connectivity of the internet will be damaged and many computers will be unable to go online.
"This is like the internet running out of telephone numbers and with no new numbers, you can't have more subscribers," Cerf was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph newspaper today.
The computer scientists, who helped invent the system, called for early preparations to switch addresses to a new system. He underlined that the web does not have enough unique codes that allow system to communicate with each other. When the internet was developed in 1977 there were 4.2 billion addresses available under the internet protocol version four (IPv4) system.
According to the report in the British daily, each of the IPv4 addresses has a series of 32 binary numbers, but with the surge of broadband globally, it is estimated that these addresses will run out by 2010.
A new system called IPv6 has been ready for a decade and is already used in Japan to connect thousands of earthquake sensors through a computer system that sends automatic alerts to television programmes and turns traffic lights red, the report said.
IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long and so provide a possible 340 trillion, trillion, trillion address space, it said.

PEOPLE ARE WATCHING- DEBATES IN AP ASSEMBLY
PEOPLE ARE WATCHING.. DEBATES IN AP ASSEMBLY
BY SIVAPRASAD DANTU
The recent spar between the Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the Telugu Desam leader N. Chandrababu Naidu in the Assembly on the subject of Terrorism lowered the esteem of the law makers in the eyes of those who watched the proceedings live on TV. Both the leaders deviated from the subject and levelled personal allegations against each other.
It appears to the common man that the time in the Assembly is being misused to indulge in personal attacks that bring no benfit to the State or the citizens of the State.
It is unfortunate that these leaders feel that they are not accountable and have scant regard for the people. Their debates with verbal dramatics are a waste of time for those who watch them. Such debates discourage the young generation to aspire to become politcal leaders.
It appears that the leaders have no concern or regard for the citizens. What all they care for is to nurture a strong cadre of party workers to bring them back to power.
Terrorism is such a subject about which every one including the common man is worried about. The common man wants to know why so many terrorist acts are taking place claiming so many innocent lives. Common man also wonders why the threat perception of politcal leaders alone matters and not the threat perception to the common man due to terrorism. Protecting the law and order is the first duty of any government.
People of Andrha Pradesh too will be ready to make the leaders accountable for their failures in the matter of terrorism.
Another matter people are agitated is the lack of care and concern for the victims of families of those who lost their lives due to terrorist acts.
Except declaring a ex gratia payment, what else the government is doing to give the families of victims a healing touch. It is not often financial help that alone counts. The Government needs to set up commitees with eminent citizens to supervise the projects that help the victim families in every respect.
On both the counts, the government of the day has shown scant respect.
The Political parties need to understand that they will be called to account for their failures and lapses by people. Before the rage of public anger takes firm shape, the leaders need to know that they have to perform their duties with utmost sincerity and serve the citizens as the servants of people and not as the masters of people. If they fail to heed to the warnings, their fate too will be same as that of Mr. Shivraj Patil, Vilasrao Deshmukh who have to pay a heavy price.
These so called leaders need to bring decency back into politics and work unitedly to alleviate the sufferings of people. No longer the assembly debates be used to articulate personal allegations.
The TV Channels will be doing a great service by not telecasting live the assembly proceedings any more. They are not doing any great job in the assembly nor they are role models for citizens.

DEAR PRME MINISTER OF INDIA,
My dear Prime Minister,
As a proud citizen of the largest democracy, I am shocked by the dastardly terrorist acts that are shaking the nation and bleeding the hearts. I think it is time to introspect what has gone wrong and how to avoid the political mistakes that led to the poor credibility of politicians in India as a whole. If India has to emerge as a credible democracy, accountability needs to be given prmacy.
The first apparent flaw in the political system is the political compulsions to give precedence to caste, political, communal, regional considerations over merit in cabinet appointments. I feel it is the experts with experience based on merit and credibility that should govern the cabinet appointments. Internal Security matters like terrorism need to guided by persons with field experience in such areas like army so that they know their job well and do their best. There are several talented people in the nation who have the capabilities to govern and guide effectively but they have no political ambitions is the biggest drawback. Yet, every political party or group aspiring to come to power or comes to power need to scout for talent on apolitical basis so that India truly emerges as a nation where governance delivers fruits and results to the citizens.
Secondly, the political parties need to have a consensus on the national agenda irrespective of differences in approach. Take for example the classic political battle between the BJP and the UPA on how to tackle the menace of terrorism. Due to lack of consensus, protecting the lives of citizens against terrorism takes back seat. When the whole world is united in offering solace and help to India and declaring that they are with India in its fight against terrorism, our own political parties want to gain brown points for electoral gains is condemnable. The UPA argues against POTA saying that the it is not required where as NDA swears by it as the effective instrument of law empowering the police to bring the terrorists to justice. It is because of political leveraging that the parties oppose compulsively other parties policies.
Whenever a terrorist act occurs, it has become easy for the politicians to throw the blame at Pakistan and wash off their hands. Does it mean that we as a nation are so weak that we can not eliminate the small groups of motivated terrorists from across the borders before they cause the damage?
Moreover, after a long time, in Pakistan there is a democratic government which says that it is ready to extend help if we are able to provide evidence of complicity of elements in Pakistan like LeT. When good atmospherics in relationship between the estranged neighbors is building up, we need to give the new government a chance to act upon the evidence provided by us against the groups operating from Pakistani soil against India. I think that Pakistan too can no longer sit on the credible evidence of involvement of groups operating from their soil and indulging in terrorist activities against India. Instead of a professional approach, the moment a terrorist act is committed, we are content with blaming Pakistan for it and forgetting the act till a new terrorist act causes damage to the lives and properties of our citizens.
Every terrorist act is the result of failure of state machinery to take pre emptive action against the terrorists. When the Fishermen Union in Mumbai wrote to the State Government that RDX is coming through the sea routes to Mumbai, what action has been taken by the authorities is a question that worries the common man. With a huge naval and coast guard right in Mumbai offshore, what these agencies are doing to counter the threat perceptions also need to be investigated. We must awake the administration and the machinery like navy, coast guard etc to coordinate with each other in preempting the terrorist attempts. The elite NSG must be expanded so that its units are stationed at each state head quarters. They must have the chance to familiarize with the threat perception and get familiarized with the likely targets of terrorists so that when the terrorists strike, the NSG will not have to grapple with little known working environment during the threat times.
Hence it is a change that can bring better governance by making cabinet appointments apolitically and accountability need to be given primacy in politics to make Indian democracy credible/

LIVE TV COVERAGE OF TERRORIST ENGAGMENTS
MUMBAI MAHYEM AND THE MEDIA
TV News Channels in India made live relay of the engagement with the terrorists for almost 60 hours
giving second by second by second live coverage to the viewers across the globe. They did a remarkable job even risking their lives.
However, the media need to understand that engaging highly motivated terrorists requires great skills and tactics to outwit the terrorists.
The commandos bank on the element of surprise to corner and nab the terrorists and try to ensure that innocent lives are not protected during the anti terrorist operations.
The group of terrorists who came across the borders are a bunch of highly trained and motivated to cause the maximum loss of life and there by grab the world headlines. The commandos want to use the element of surprise to nab the terrorists. The media must understand that the live coverage explaining each and every detail of how the commandos have been deployed may help the terrorists in prolonging the battle with commandos and cause maximum loss of life. I was astonished to see the live footage of the commandos positions against the enemy. The terrorists as it has been revealed now have the most modern Satellite phones etc and the accomplices of these terrorists can keep the terrorists informed of the placements and positions of the commandos who encircled them, with the help of TV live coverage.
When the terrorists turn desperate, they can kill innocent people. It is not only the live coverage but the constant voice reporting from the horror sites, that can give a clue to the terrorists. Even if the hotels, switch off the television sets, they still can get valuable inputs from their accomplices from the live coverage.
I think that the media need to coordinate with the brave commandos and refrain from telecasting the live coverage of such engagements. After all what the Commandos doing on the locations to nab the terrorists is no cinema or drama. It is the real effort of the brave men to save the nation and the innocent civilians from the wrath of terrorists.
TV Channels must stop the one oneupmanship game in such tragedies and ensure that they give the viewers the information that has been authorized by the agencies in charge of such operations.

UPA GOVERNMENT IN INDIA- A NON PERFORMER
Dr Manmohan Singh led UPA government performed poorly in tackling the law and order problems as well as in managing the fiancial crises. Dr Manmohan Singh might be a great economist, but proved to be insensitive to the problems faced by the citizens on account of economic crises.
The stock exchanges returned to where they were when the UPA government took over wipting out billions and billions of market capitalization. Thanks to the resistance from the left parties, the UPA government could not pursue privatization aggressively and saved the nation to some extent. The agricultural debt relief is the only major act directed for providing relief to the farmers, though in many cases, the farmers are yet to benefit from the measure. The banks that have written off the debts of farmers as per the GOI instructions are yet to be reimbursed the amounts that were written off to the fullest extent.
The tackling of Oil price rise and refusal to provide any relief to the common man despite the international oil prices falling below 60 dollars per barrel, speaks of the insensitivity of the UPA government. The strange argument that the oil companies are still incurring losses on account of subsidies on the domestic gas cylinders and kerosene are fallacious. These subsidies were not started during this UPA government. They were the measures to help the common man since decades, irrespective of the government in force. The common man is burdened with the price rise, with no real relief in sight. Most of the day to day use essential commodities are beyond the reach of common man. For all the ills surprisingly the UPA government is blaming the global financial crises. They forget in India still regulations are in place to allow them to bring down the prices within the reach of common man. The refusal to reduce the administered prices of petrol and diesel are being viewed by the public as anti people mesausres. Dr Manmohan Singh as well as Chidambaram are trying to defend the economic condition on global financial crises, instead of vigilantly managing the economy and lessen the impact of such crises.
Secondly, there is no respite from the terrorist attacks on the innocent civilians. The Central Government had done pretty little to curb terrorism with iron hand.
Let us hope that the next due general elections will enable us to elect a government that is sensistive to the public causes, accountable for its actions of omission or commission.

DISCOVER THE JOY OF SERVICE TO THE NEEDY
DISCOVER THE JOY OF SERVICE
Most of us want to do something for those who find it difficult to feed themselves. Be it age factor, poverty, physical condition.
We as ordinary citizens can do something only if we have a will and resolve to look beyond. A fistful of rice, a biscuit packet, a tablet that can can cure common ailments, a soap, clothes and the list is endless.
We can help those who need our service in two ways.
The first way is to sort out things that you no longer need. Every house has a variety of items in store room that we may never use. Old furniture, books, clothes, electrical appliances like fans and the list is endless. You can visit the nearest old age homes or orphanages and ask the organisers to visit your home to pick up the items from your store room. They will be glad to visit your home and pick up things they may find useful. This way at no extra cost, you can serve the society.
The second way calls for buying a little extra whenever you shop. When you want 10 Kgs of rice, instead buy 11 Kgs and deliver the one Kg of rice to the needy. When you buy half a dozen soaps, you can buy an extra soap and give it away to the needy. When you buy general medicines over the counter, take an extra strip and deliver it to the needy. You may think that this may be a speck in the ocean but remember that specks only make an ocean.
Remember that there are people in the neighborhood itself looking for help.
Once you realise the happiness in giving away instead of accumulation, you will make it a way of life and contribute in your own humble way to help the needy.
God helps those who helps the needy. Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba says that service to mankind is service to God. You can serve God by helping the needy.

CHANDRAYAAN CIRCLING MOON-exciting the youth of the nation
India's first attempt to send a mission to moon for scientific studies of immense importance for the future of the mankind was a splendid success with latest reports confirming that the Chandrayan Satellite is now circling the moon in the predetermined orbit.
For the Indian scientists it is the first time that they handled a mission beyond the earth. It proves that the Indian scientists are capable of space achievements only a few advanced nations can boast of. India has already to its credit successful launches that put indigenous satellites for communications.
The 1,157-lb. Chandrayan-1 was launched on a two-year mission on one of India's own Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) space rocket from the Sriharikota Space Center in southern India.
This Indian Moon mission will send back to Earth high resolution 3-D images of the surface of moon including shadowy polar region. It will search for evidence of water or ice. It will be the first time that the mission sends data to scientists for the preparation of high resolution digital map of the lunar surface.
A former science minster in the Indian government, physicist M.G.K. Menon told news media then that Chandrayan-1 would "excite the younger generation." Menon also said the Moon flight would have the effect of "enormously increasing the confidence of the nation."
For two years the Chandrayan satellite will circle the moon and enable the scientists to study moon for valuable inputs for generations to come.
Indian youth are enthused by this success and are eager to work in the space programs of ISRO. Space technology in the advanced nations led to advancement and betterment of life in many fields.
Another important thing is that India's cost of space programs including making of satellites, launch of satellites with rockets developed in house by ISRO and the low cost tracking, control and command operations of space craft make India an tough competitor in the global space satellite and launch market.

HE CAN UNITE DIVIDED HEARTS AND MINDS
SATYA SAI BABA- LOVE IN ACTION
BY SIVAPRASAD DANTU
November 23 marks the birth day of Sri Satya Sai Baba, 'Living God' to his multitude of devotees across 167 nations transcending Caste, Creed, Religion, Region, Language, national barriers. He is reverentially addressed as 'Swamy' and his devotees get inspired by his message of 'Serve All: Love All'
Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparthi Village in Ananthapur District often referred to as the 'Abode of Living God' is in the international spot light, enjoying the status of a Pilgrimage Center for devotees from across the world.
Some of the Baba's famous quotes are:
There is only one religion : the religion of Love
There is only one language : the language of Heart
There is only one Caste : the caste of Humanity
There is only one God and He is Omni present
He transforms the hearts to look beyond the caste, creed, religion, region, nation. He unites them all for a meaningful life on earth and for life after death. He says ' One has to cultivate purity to seduce demonic qualities. But purity cannot be attained without unity. Unity leads to purity which in turn leads to divinity ...Once you install Divinity in your heart, there will be no place for enmity, because heart is a single chair, not a musical chair or double sofa' He has the answers to the toughest problems the nations, communities, regions, individuals have before them, only if we are ready to change for the better.
According to Baba 'Devotion is not just performance of rituals etc, but the act of serving'. Baba exhorts his devotees ' Do not talk of the service you have done. Instead reflect on what service has done for you'. For Him, service should not be exhibitionistic: You must seek no reward not even gratitude or thanks from the recipient.
His devotees realise that gateway to God is by emulating Baba's example of love and selfless service and living by his motto “Love All and Serve All”
Sri Satya Sai Central Trust is in the forefront of implementing remarkable programs in educare, health care, water supply, and relief to poor.'These service activities are Baba's love in action. He says “For Health, the heart is important: For Knowledge, the head is important: For the body, water is essential: All these three-- Health care, Education and Water should be provided free. They should not be commercialized, for all these are gifts from god”
Education: Following the message of the Baba that “Education is for life and not for mere living” Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Sri Satya Sai Higher Secondary School, Sri Satya Sai Mirpuri College of Music and Sri Satya Sai Gurukulam English Medium School along with various institutions set up by the trust in different places are truly temples of education, preparing young children to live a meaningful life and serve the nation and society they live.
Health care: Sri Satya Sai General Hospital at Prashanti Nilayam, and Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences at Prashanti Gram, Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences at White Field Bangalore are rendering services to the patients for a range of diseases. Thousands and thousands of needy patients avail the medical facilities where treatment is given with care and love at heart. The mission is to 'provide high quality medical care absolutely on a no cost basis to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and financial status in an overall spiritual environment which recognizes the patient as a human being and not as a diseased entity'.
Water Supply Schemes:
Under His Divine guidance, the Trust has executed a number of projects that have brought this elixir of life into the parched throats of millions in Andhra Pradesh in Ananthapur, Medak and Mehaboob Nagar Districts as well as Chennai. The Ninth Five Year Plan document of Government of India added a citation to the Trust in appreciation
of the Ananthapur Project which read “… Sri Sathya Sai Trust has set an unparalleled example of private initiative in implementing a project on their own, without any state's budgetary support, a massive water supply project, with an expenditure of Rs. 3,000 million to benefit 731 scarcity and fluoride/ salinity-affected villages and a few towns in Ananthapur District of Andhra Pradesh in a time frame of about 18 months' is an ample testimony to the service projects being undertaken benefiting millions.
All His service projects are Love in Action for the humanity. He responds to the needy in times of calamities be it Tsunamis, floods, earth quakes. The recent example of the announcement of Trust to construct houses for the flood victims in seven districts of Orissa by spending 10 crore rupees and the plans of the trust to dispose of Sri Satya Sai International Airport at Puttaparthi as well as Satya Sai Ashram in Kodai Kanal for helping the needy poor are the examples of selfless service to the needy as ordained by the Living God.
The Satya Sai Seva Samithi in Vizag district with the aid of 18 samithis60 Bhajan Mandals, 12000 devotees 2500 sevadal volunteers, is doing service to the community that a few can dare to think of. For the Medical Care 63 Doctors in rotation render service at the Sadan as well as the medical camps conducted by the samithi. Under the Nitya Narayana Seva Program, daily 108 people are fed with care and love and on the birthday of Baba, the needy are gifted with clothes, chappals, umrellas, handsticks etc. The Sai spirit is worth emulation by one and all if we have to create a better society.

OBAMA BEST BET FOR BETTER WORLD
OBAMA- BEST BET FOR A BETTER AMERICA AND BETTER WORLD
By now, everybody knows who the next President of the USA is. Obama has won the hearts across the globe not for his abilities to transform America and other nations in better places, but because of the 'feel good factor' he is able to generate.
US Citizens are facing worst economic crises because of the faltered policies of the previous Presidents that led to the US intervention in a number of nations, bleeding America and the Americans. Instead of tackling the root cause for terrorism, the successive administrations poured billions of tax payers money in the bottom less pit to fight terrorism. Had the US reasoned with Israel, that Palestinians too need their nation hood soon after the formation of Israel, many bloody wars could have been avoided between the Israelis, Palestinians and Arabs. It is the perceived bias of the successive US administrations towards Israel that created bad blood in the Muslim world. The Arab and Muslim countries retorted with the Oil weapon in their hands by nationalising Oil companies, reducing the supplies of Oil leading to escalation of Oil prices, that affected not only the US but the whole world as well. It is the failure of the administrations to lead the world in the right way that cost the Americans and the world dearly. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, US by default became the soul super power, but failed to discharge its duty as the only responsible super power. The Kuwati liberation war, the Iraqi war, the Afghan war imposed and continuing to impose unbearable burden on the Americans. Though of late US has been making efforts to ensure peace in the middle east, still it is unable to bring the disputing parties to a final settlement.
The US economic policies, that stand on the foundation of free enterprise too faltered since there is little regulation to maintain true transparency in businesses which resulted in loss of trillions of dollars of investor money. The Financial Institutions collapsed like nine pins and not only caused irreparable damage to the US economy and US citizens, but to each and every country too.
Obama's inauguration as the US President, changes the mind set of other nations towards America. Iran and other nations that show open hostility to US find comfort level in dealing with the Obama administration and the tensions that cause economic and political turmoils can considerably lead to reasonable pricing of the commodities across the world. As part of the Comprehensive financial reforms, Obama need to look into stock market and commodity market operators, who gain benefit at the cost of investors and producers and actual users.
The general expectation from Obama is that he will reform the financial sector in the US in such a way that America gains and world gains.
Obama will sure look into the real causes that created conditions of mistrust, depression and offer real leadership to the Americans and nations at large by his actions that are just, equitable and reasonable.

STOCK MARKET CRASH
YOU ARE TO BLAME YOURSELF
Only a few make money in stock markets is the eternal truth. It depends not on expertise but luck is another factor that need to be considered. Ordinary investor is like a Cricket fan watching a match and making comments on how the player performed and what went wrong, though the fan himself never touched bat or ball in his life time. Better except those who have tons of money and lots of luck, the rest especially middle class stop chasing money through the markets and losing their shirt. There is a need to prevent fresh buying by the middle class investors, who even resort to borrowings to make up for the losses.
The Finace Minister went on the News Channels repeatedly assuring the investors in stock markets to stay calm and not to panic. Those who have not panicked and stay calm today are losers. Instead of telling the investors who include many middle class people who were lured by higher returns, to not panic, he must have shut the markets whenever the Over Night cues indicated continued selling pressure. The investors lost more than 30,00,000 crores from the highs of stock markets must have been looked with more seriousness than announcing measures that fail to enthuse the markets.
Why the Instituions, Mutual Funds and private investors pour money when their own NAVs are drastically falling day by day? Telling that it is a global phenomenon is only escapist statement.
The stock market crash has shaken more people than in the previous times.
The investors need to realise that buying stocks through IPO route or secondary markets is not safe at all, keeping in view the hefty premiums at which these stocks trade. The Infosys stock may have a face value of Rs 2 but trades in the range of 1200-1500. The stock splits that were allowed only depreciated the real value of these stocks.
When the sensex was at 21000 level, the socalled analysts on TV Channels went on giving tips on stocks for further gains. The TV Business Channels too played a part in luring the middle class on the side lines to enter the markets for unprecedented gains. Most of these individual investors go by what the TV Channels say and got into heavy losses.
Till the market stabilizes, it is better to shut the business channels which host a lot of experts, giving unending recommendations on better buys at every stage even when the investors are losing heavily.

Bicycle wheel wind mill- It is possible to generate eco friendly power
Ted Baer's Bicycle Wheel Windmill
Ted Baer has created a series of small windmills designed for third world use over a period of three decades. This first in the series has evolved in simplicity and power.
The aluminum vanes are constructed from a building flashing roll utilizing the pre-existing bend of the roll in construction. Two 16 " sections are riveted together to make
one vane. The vanes clip on the spokes of the bicycle wheel using a "bent nail" and a bend in the vane. Detailed pictures will be provided shortly. The generator is a
surplus permanent magnet motor and the uv resistant endless belting is purchased to length from online sources.
Output is a respectable 2 amps at 12 mph (18-20 volts) providing a cost effective alternative to a solar photovoltaic panels (if wind is available). The total cost of the
windmill was less than $80 purchasing most items new (off-the-shelf). The two most expensive items were the permanent magnet motor (around $30) and the uv
resistant round belting typically used in food processing plants to drive conveyors ($3 to $5 per foot).
The windmill does have a tail (see new photo). The frame is made from PVC pipe. It is important to use only a 24 to 27 inch rear solid axle bicycle wheel. The wheel is
mounted to a PVC end cap via a hole drilled in the middle of the end cap.
The generator is a 24 volt DC permanent magnet motor. This one was surplus and used in old main frame disk drive units. DC permanent magnet motors are available
through Internet surplus resources, but getting scarce. Here is a link that gives you more detail on sources and the types to look for:
http://www.otherpower.com/otherpower_experiments_tapedrivemotors.html
The generator is mounted using a simple L bracket. Should be sturdy (not the typical shelf bracket) and both the motor and the bracket are secured with radiator hose
clamps.
The windmill pole is electrical conduit that 1.5 inch PVC slides over. A short segment of PVC pipe is screwed into the metal conduit to create a bearing that the windmill
pivots on (PVC to PVC).
The tail has to be counterweighted to balance the unit. Ted used a bunch of pennies and got it balanced perfectly. What else are they good for? :-)
CASH IS KING-POSTPONE ALL YOUR BIG PURCHASES
ARE YOU PLANNING TO BUY HOUSE/FLAT OR PLOT OF LAND?
STOP WAIT AND PROCEED
If you have plans to buy a house/flat or plot of land, it is time to wait. The global melt down, financial turmoil and stock market crash indicate that the real estate prices are for a drastic free fall. Already prices of apartments which were quoting as high as Rs 5000 per Sq feet in cities like Hyderabad crashed to Rs4000-3000 per square feet. This fall in prices is not complete. In Hyderabad alone more than 60 Lakh square feet constructed area is unsold and every day the size of unsold apartments, flats is increasing only. The prices will once again come down to reasonable level with drastic fall in demand and you have to adopt stop, wait and proceed attitude.
Postpone the purchase of any kind of property for now. Even postpone the purchase of costly items like Cars. Now Cash is the king. Wait for good prices and excellent bargains.
If you paid any token advance for acquiring apartment or land better lose that small portion instead of paying a price at which you can never resell in near future.
